Woodcarving is as old as time and has been used to communicate, document history, and capture the extraordinary beauty of nature. Local resident, Jim Schram, Sr., shard his love of this unique art form when he introduced Woodcarving to the community of Blackduck many years ago. His impact enriched the lives of many people and the Blackduck Woocarvers Festival was started.
Lying with the forests and lakes of Northern Minnesota is the Village of Blackduck. Annually, for a quarter of a
century, the community of Blackduck has sprung to life on the last Saturday of July when its population explodes as visitors pack into the town to experience the Blackduck Woodcarvers Festival. During this day people come from miles around to enjoy the crafts of experienced woodcarvers who come from many states to show and sell their crafts.
During this day local groups set up food booths with ethnic foods available for all to enjoy. Homemade “Uff-DaTacos”, and freshly squeezed lemonade are just some of the treats available to buy. Each year a local carver donates one very special carving for a raffle and tickets are sold. The drawing for this beautiful work of art is at the end of the day when the lucky winner is notified. Be sure and mark your calendar to attend this annual, unique experience. It is always held on the last Saturday of July, rain or shine.
