City Information

Blackduck is centrally located in Beltrami County, 25 miles north of Bemidji, 75 miles from the Canadian Border and approximately 250 miles from the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The city itself has a population of about 700, and the overall community, measured by the School District boundaries, is about 5,000.

The area’s economic base is chiefly comprised of four sectors: Forestry/logging, agriculture, tourism and Anderson Fabrics – the largest customer-owned material (COM) drapery manufacturer in the nation.

This unique rural community is the hub of a great outdoor recreation area with a wide variety of natural attractions and businesses. It sits at the northwest edge of the Chippewa National Forest – 1.6 million acres of forested lands, more than 700 lakes, numerous trails and waterways, and home to the largest bald eagle breeding population in the lower 48 states.

Blackduck can also be considered on top of the world as the Laurentian Continental Divide lies just outside the city limits. The waters north of the Divide flow to Canada’s Hudson Bay; the waters south to the Gulf of Mexico.
